Palm oil dominates the world because it is easy to use and cheap. In Western diets, palm oil is used to replace unhealthy trans fats; as Asian countries such as India become more and more affluent, oil consumption is rising. Palm oil is cheap and widely used, and many well-known brands use it. Manufacture of food and daily necessities.Palm oil's widespread adoption began in the food processing industry.

In the 1960s, scientists began warning that butter's high saturated fat content might increase the risk of heart disease. Food manufacturers, including Unilever , a British-Dutch multinational consumer goods company, began replacing margarine with vegetable oils.on one day in 1995, transport trucks carrying palm oil were lined up outside Unilever factories across Europe.

It was a moment that changed the food processing industry forever. Unilever was a trailblazer; after Van Duijn organized the company's switch to palm oil, nearly every other food manufacturer followed.Today, more than two-thirds of palm oil enters the food market. In the 20 years from 1995 to 2015, EU palm oil consumption more than tripled.

In recent decades, palm oil has quickly penetrated into every corner of people's lives on earth, each person uses an average of 8 kilograms per year! It has surpassed soybean oil and rapeseed oil and has become the "stealth oil king" with the largest production and consumption in the world. Unlike other oils, the magic of palm oil is that it is "fickle" and can be "fractionated" (crystallized and separated) into solids (stearin) and liquids (liquid oil) with different melting points. Its versatility makes palm oil Huge advantage. Not only are food processing companies discovering this property, but industries such as personal care products and transportation fuels are also using it to replace other oils.

Initially, it was mainly because of the environmental friendliness of palm oil.

In the past, the ingredients of soaps and shampoos contained animal fats; in the 1980s, the personal care industry began to notice consumers' preference for "natural" ingredients. In the 1990s, the outbreak of mad cow disease triggered a greater change in consumption habits. Getting rid of animal products is a trend. Manufacturers looking for alternatives have found that palm oil and palm kernel oil contain the same fat types as beef tallow, making them widely available and ideal for replacement. Today, 70% of personal care products such as soaps, shampoos, lotions and cosmetics contain one or more palm oil derivatives.

As a biofuel, palm oil performs equally well as soybean oil, rapeseed oil, etc., but it has one major advantage over these competitors: price. Half of the palm oil currently imported into the EU is used for biofuels.
