Fermented cottonseed meal

  Fermented cottonseed meal

Cottonseed meal is mainly made of cottonseed as raw material, and is a product obtained by removing oil through pre-pressing leaching or direct leaching method to distinguish it from cottonseed cake after extracting oil through pressing method.

Product name: Cottonseed meal

Crude protein: content between 38%-50%

Raw materials: mainly cotton seeds

Crude fiber content: 9%-16%

 BACKGROUND

The development of animal husbandry is jointly restricted by many factors, and the shortage of protein resources is one of its important influencing factors. In recent years, as the price of soybean meal continues to rise, cottonseed meal has received widespread attention as a better protein resource. However, because cottonseed meal contains free gossypol and other toxins, as well as cottonseed hulls, cotton lint and other crude fibers, improper use can cause animal health problems. Therefore, the efficient detoxification technology and efficient feeding technology of cottonseed meal have always been a research hotspot at home and abroad.

Methods for detoxifying cottonseed meal

Gossypol is the most important anti-nutritional factor in cottonseed meal and is the main reason that limits the application of cottonseed meal. Therefore, the removal of gossypol can effectively improve the nutritional value of cottonseed meal.

The methods for removing phenol from cottonseed meal mainly include: physical method, chemical method, and microbial fermentation method.

Nutritional value and anti-nutritional factors

The feeding value of cottonseed meal: Cottonseed meal is a protein raw material with high caloric value and special biological value. Its crude protein content is about 44%, rich in vitamin E, thiamine and B vitamins, and its phosphorus content is about 1%. After hydrolysis of cottonseed meal, 17 kinds of amino acids can be obtained, of which the lysine content is low at 1.97%, while the arginine content is as high as 4.65%. The ratio of lysine to arginine content far exceeds the ideal 100:120 Ratio (Deng Lufang et al., 2011). The amino acid composition ratio is one of the better among all cakes. Except for methionine, which is slightly insufficient, other amino acids meet the standards recommended by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Anti-nutritional factors in cottonseed meal: The average molecular weight of the protein in cottonseed meal is relatively large, and it contains anti-nutritional factors such as oligosaccharides, phytic acid, gossypol, non-starch polysaccharides, cyclopropene fatty acids, and tannins. These anti-nutritional factors Factors not only affect the digestion and absorption of nutrients, but also have significant adverse effects on animal production, development and reproduction, seriously restricting the application of cottonseed meal in livestock and poultry feeds and aquatic feeds.
