Complete Equipment for Large-Scale Processing of Cyperus Passes Review

On December 21, the Central Plains Food Laboratory, in collaboration with Henan Huatai Grain and Oil Machinery Co., Ltd., Henan University of Technology, and Jiangnan University, held its first scientific achievement evaluation meeting for the project "Key Technologies and Complete Equipment for Large-Scale Processing of High-Starch Oil Crop Cyperus." This marks the first achievement evaluation conducted since the establishment of the Central Plains Food Laboratory.

Breakthroughs in Tiger Nut Processing Technology

The evaluation panel reviewed the project’s achievements and supporting materials. After thorough discussion, the experts concluded that the project successfully developed several key technologies, including combined polishing, cleaning, flaking, granulation, and extrusion processing for cyperus; shallow-layer drag-chain extraction.

And wet meal desolventization using dry heat under negative pressure and low-temperature methods. These innovations effectively address challenges such as high powder content, poor solvent permeability, high solvent retention in wet meals, and clumping during desolventization.

The project also pioneered the design and manufacturing of 10 sets of equipment, including polishing and cleaning machines, flaking machines, granulators, low-temperature extruders, automatic drag-chain extractors, and low-temperature dry-heat desolventizers.

Additionally, the team successfully designed a 300 t/d tiger nut oil production line, significantly reducing processing costs to a level comparable to soybean oil production.

International Leadership and Future Recommendations

The expert panel unanimously agreed that the project fills a gap in low-cost, large-scale, and continuous oil extraction technologies and equipment for Cyperus, achieving international leadership in the field.

They recommended accelerating the promotion and application of these technologies to create a series of processing scales, thereby generating greater social and economic benefits.
